Environmental performance in production.

At our Vetschau production site, we focus on measurable actions to reduce resource consumption and emissions.

  • Water reuse
  • Production-material recovery
  • Heat recovery
  • On-site photovoltaic electricity generation

Production water recovery and reuse.

At the Vetschau site, rainwater is collected, filtered and reused in production processes. Process water is collected and returned to the production cycle.

Recycling on-site and material transparency.

Our production process uses recovered raw materials and reuses production waste, including feldspar, window and monitor glass, raw and fired breakage, extraction residues, sludge and industrial water.

Where applicable, the Declare® Label provides product ingredient transparency and confirms that the declared materials do not contain Living Building Challenge® Red List substances.

Heat recovery and energy efficiency.

Since October 2019, the Vetschau production site has operated a heat recovery system.

Following commissioning, annual CO₂ emissions decreased from approx. 28,369 t (2017) and 27,097 t (2018) to approx. 23,845 t (2019) and 24,970 t (2020).

Annual emissions data are externally verified and reported to DEHSt.

2.4 MWp photovoltaic capacity installed.

The photovoltaic system at the Vetschau site supports electricity supply for production. It has an installed capacity of 2.4 MWp and covers an area of 50,000 m².

Certifications and environmental documentation.

  • LEED | BREEAM: Documented recycled content can contribute to relevant building assessment criteria.
  • GREENGUARD Gold: Certification for low emissions of substances into indoor air.
  • EPD: Verified environmental information based on life-cycle assessment.
  • Declare® Label: Material transparency and Living Building Challenge® Red List information.
  • ISO 14067: Framework for quantifying a product carbon footprint.

Wind energy – upcoming project at the Vetschau site.

A wind energy project with a planned capacity of 6.0 MW is planned for the Vetschau site.

Once operational, on-site renewable electricity generation is expected to cover up to 70% of the site’s total electricity demand.
